If I were given the oppurtunity to go and play an arena, I would do it in a heartbeat.
If I were given the oppurtunty to have my music played to masses of people, I would do it.


Did you honestly think they would play basement shows and hand out demo tapes forever?
The fact that they have gotten bigger isnt compromise, it's oppurtunity. And a good one at that.

i've been hearing this SAME argument before the eternal cowboy was released ! (when fans found out they signed to fat)

this argument has been going on for over 5 years now . (not the crime argument, but the decisions am! has made)

What a condescending attitude. They've released music on labels run by other people ever since their first EP (on Crasshole). Sire's pretty DIY, isn't it?

I think you're taking Tom's comment a little bit too seriously. Against Me! shouldn't have to explain or justify their decisions to anybody. I was hoping our forum wouldn't become a place where discussions like this were even necessary, especially after the last forum was shut down. Bummer.

where ever there is going to be an am! discussion,

this topic is going to be brought up. ALWAYS.

i feel that there is really no point to get upset / angry / feel any negative emotions towards it.

against me is on sire now, and pretty much whatever they do is going to be criticized now. it is impossible to satisfy everyone, when so many people have different opinions.

Seriously, I knew a guy who was a brilliant, genius, absolute once-in-a-generation musician. But he was really into the cult of DIY. As such, he actually, truly believed that playing music in front of more than 10 people was "selling out". Meanwhile, there were 4, 5 hundred people coming to see him play in tiny rooms for 2$ a pop. He was making money. People were actually buying his CDs and enjoying them. Nope. He thought it was selling out. So he stopped doing music completely.

Fucking DIY is a joke. It's a cult, it's the belief that success and having an audience is anathema to making music. Bull. Fucking. Shit.
