| | Chris is a douche bag? That's new to me. He never hated on the band for getting bigger, he was just disappointed that they pulled Crime when they didn't have to and couldn't give him a legitimate reason for doing so. Yes, he is a pretty DIY person and adheres to that ethic. There's a difference between hating on someone and just wishing they had stayed in the basement. I wish AM! wouldn't play larger venues like they do, but I don't hate them for that, I'd hate them for better reasons. Sorry if a lot of this doesn't make sense; I just think the hate on Chris is totally unjustified. |

Yeah, I don't think there's a point to this discussion anymore. _________________ Now that you're here, the word of the Lorax seems perfectly clear. UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not. |

| Here you go, since you guys apparently have so much to say about this. Dan, if you have an issue with something a mod does, next time just PM them instead. _________________ Every ten year-old enemy soldier Thinks falling bombs are shooting stars sometimes But she doesn’t make wishes on them |

why not? as much as i love PIX and every act associated with them, it seems pretty apparent that AM! was headed in a direction way, way different from that which is PIX's mantra. plus, you don't sign a contract with PIX, which means there's no guarantee that they're going to stock/order/sell your CD. every time i've ever ordered from them, it's taken a bit of time for the release to get to me. i have no problem with that, but other people might.
let's say you're an artist. people complain that they can't get your release from PIXs distro on time. same thing happens in record stores. on top of that, you're not particularly popular with the people who are still big into that scene anymore. why not pull it, and put the rights into the hands of someone you trust.
major labels grab most artists by the balls, and keep larger rights over the artist. i think it's awesome that the guys were in a position to do what they wanted with their release. i understand if chris is a little pissed, but he has to understand the nature of the business, from outside of a DIY perspective. |

this whole thing has influenced my opinion of them a bit negatively, as a band. _________________ http://www.recordnerd.com/lists/dandangoose/

| i'm not suggesting they're businessmen. i'm suggesting they're intelligent. as an artist, i can confidently say that you have to find a balance between the two. sure, sticking to an aesthetic that gives you "street/punk/HC cred" makes you appealing to a small subculture, and look incredibly true to your morals, but where does that get you? if your long-term goal is to reach an immense amount of people through your work, well, you have to do some compromising.
i'm not saying AM! has compromised anything, because it's pretty obvious that they haven't. i don't see how taking action towards owning your own music would influence your opinion on a band, at least in a negative manner. i applaud the testicular fortitude it takes to pull your music off one label so as to have greater control over it. |
