My first proper bass line was from "People of the Sun" by Rage Against The Machine. It's decently funky. Of course, I learned a bunch of scales and things, I just never bothered learning any grooves from songs for freakin' ever. I need to study the bass seriously, really.

Just don't be that guy who goes to the music store and plays bass lines from Pixies songs over and over again. I hate that guy.

I ended up learning a lot of Rage songs, they're all pretty much scales. The first Rage song I learned was Know Your Enemy, that one's fun!

The first one I 'learned' was Longview, I played it really shitty so I gave up on bass and picked up guitar.

i think the first day i got my first bass i learned blitzkrieg bop. then after that it was a ton of rancid, green day, and mxpx songs.

Also, I picked up guitar and bass lex! They're essentially the same thing, just with bass, know you're scales and you're set! although, if I may brag, i'm starting to master guitar and bass, I've already had drums down for a good 10 years, so maybe I can start writing some GOOD songs

The thing is...

Girl + guitar = hot.

Girl + bass = OMFG <33

Although that's hardly a reason to pick up an instrument, just because some weird geordie in the UK thinks it's hot. I love both guitar and bass for their own merits, I can't really pick a favourite. Slapp bass is cool as balls, but squealin' harmonics on the guitar... nngggh they're so awesome. Love it love it love it.
