| not one more word tonight. between here and there we'll put a distance the size of the ocean. so now this heart can beat a skipping rhythm. as the cadence carries me i almost drift away far enough to forget. but when it comes you cannot hesitate. and when found i will write an account and seal it in an envelope addressed to your last known residence. and we sink, and we drown. and what is lost can never be found. well these arms did swim, until the lungs pulled in. panic was lost in a deep understanding that you will see what is wrong with everything. what is wrong with you and me. they make all the right reasons to fuck it up. you're gonna fuck it up.
I'm not entirely certain, but I do love the image of Florida sinking into the sea.
There was a song by this band, Enivronmental Youth Crunch, about a hurricane killing everyone and destroying all the cities in Florida, and nature taking over. That was a good tune as well.
.....I hate Florida, is all. _________________ If you stand up like a nail then you will be knocked down / I've been too honest with myself I should have lied like everybody else |

| He's from Florida so... I guess with first hand knowledge of the place it's not quite so harsh.
Anyway, this tune has often puzzled me. On the surface it seems to be a song about missing someone, but so many Against Me! songs appear to be one thing but are actually about something else, it's a tough call. _________________ The sun's always rising in the sky somewhere...

florida is really shitty. it's hot and humid all the time, bands tend to skip it, if you go past orlando, it's full of rednecks. i could go on and on. i know that was a question for arollo, but i'm sure his answer will be something along those lines and more |

God, there are so many reasons. First of all, it's one of the most beautiful places you can be, and yet it's nothing but bars and tourist traps all built at the expense of the landscape that made the place so famous.
It's full of people who are not actually from Florida, who only move their because of the idea of Florida, to retire, to die, to live a "good life" in giant McMansions behind iron bars with security guards out front questioning all visitors. I grew up in Florida, north and south (North Florida and South Florida may as well be two different states, and in fact they were going to be split up way back when), and in 20 years I have only met maybe 5 people who were actually born in Florida, everyone else is from New York or Puerto Rico or Quebec or somewhere else. There is no love for the place, only the idea. No one wants a community there. They are simply there, and everyone else is simply encroaching upon their vacation time.
The incredible divide between the rich and poor. Miami may as well be a third world nation, but people only ever see the movie image of Miami, of mansions and beaches and beautiful people. They don't see the shanty houses and desperation.
The amazing conservativism in the government, the homophobia, racism, and amazing insanity that stems from the government, which really originates in the population as a whole.
The fact that Tampa probably has more strippers than teachers. Most of the girls I went to high school with have to be strippers to pay for their education and for their food and rent. And who am I kidding? Most of them don't really give two shits about education, since they can make a couple of thousand dollars for an hour of work a week simply being nude. And these women will have children, I assure you.
The fact that the economy is driven solely by tourism, the fact that the only jobs available are a part of the tourism or retail industry. Any other line of work is frowned upon, and anyone who does not want to be a telemarketer or salesman has to leave.
The fact that the school system in Florida is basically a punchline to a joke. It's amazing that anyone can read in Florida. It's amazing that each and every one of the universities in Florida are taken seriously.
The fact that people only go to school in Florida to party, and as such, those who go to learn are placed at a serious disadvantage. The teachers aren't much better.
The fact that the black, latino, and white populations are so aggressive to each other most of the time. It's the most racially divided, racist, horribly closed minded place. As a white man, I have never, ever been asked "what are you" so often, and the answer to that question often dictated whether I would be treated with respect, or beaten by a group of people who were not "what I was".
The fact that the Gulf of Mexico is basically a dead sea. There's no life there, and no one cares.
Shall I go on? I could.
Florida is the worst place in the world. And people like it that way. Fuck Florida. _________________ If you stand up like a nail then you will be knocked down / I've been too honest with myself I should have lied like everybody else |

| It's the same with Camden in London, hardly anyone you see on the main streets are from Camden, they're just there to be 'there' and it's full of rip off touristy consumer bullshit _________________

| I think the song may be about getting drunk enough to just make everything go numb. "As the cadence carries me I almost drift away far enough to forget but when it comes you cannot hesitate." I don't know though. _________________
