| i personally think that this forum needs a moderator, way too off topic...
but with pretty girls i think its about his x-wife. maybe he caught something one the road, being irresponsible. therefore when he wanted to see his wife, he was nervous because if there was chemistry he would have to explain why it couldnt happen in order not to give it to her.
then at the end "drunk mouth ruined it again, sometimes i say the dumbest things. oh but baby its not you specifically it could be anybody, ive gone and built this up in my head. now its allready over, its already over. its already over before it started."
i think maybe he was calling his wife and thinking all of this stuff, but he ruins it saying something dumb, and never ended up seeing her. |

Does anyone have any links or specific sources on some of the background info on the SFAFC album? I first heard that Tom was getting divorced from the MAGNET article. Are there any sort of in depth discussions about why that was such a dark album?

agreed, definitely strayed away from the original topic. as i did say earlier about how the whole album is connected with this meaphor of an std (representing the fame and major label signing that may be ensuing).
I think it's about him being nervous that he has a disease (like you said), but also that he changed while he was on the road on tour, away from her so long has complicated things too.
ALSO, i think all song meaning threads should atleast have someone post the lyrics ----

| Yeah, I'm really late on this, haha, but did anyone find that article about the meaning behind SFAFC? Like it being a narrative or not and if it was, a narrative about drugs, STDs, or music politics?

| | Umm, I once read an interview with Tom saying 'How low" was a polictical song, not a personal song, which would be contrary to what other people have said about it on this topic. BUT, they have also said they read about it in an interview saying the opposite of what I'm saying. I am 99% sure, but not being able to prodouce the article right now, I have no leg to stand on. |

| I've always thought of this song, behind all the detailed bologna, was just about the difficulties of just starting and maintaining a relationship. Like, he tried to get with a chick, but fucked it up before he got anywhere with it because he thought way too much about it inside of his head.
But then again i'm the type of person who doesn't analyze songs, just let them take me away......so what do i know. |
